
Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States of America
Appointed on July 26, 2021, and formally accredited on September 15, 2021, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States brings over two decades of diplomatic experience in international relations, security policy, and public diplomacy.
Prior to his current role, he served as:
Ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye (2017–2021)
Head of Mission to NATO with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (2011–2017)
Deputy Chief of Mission to the United States (2009–2011)
Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry (2007–2009), following a post as Deputy Spokesman
Member of the Political-Military Division, contributing to the drafting of Azerbaijan’s National Security Concept and implementing its Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO (2005–2006)
Embassy staff in Washington, D.C. handling political-military, political, and public diplomacy affairs (2002–2005)
Foreign Ministry roles covering NATO relations, arms control, disarmament, and multilateral security (1998–2002)
He holds a Master’s in International Relations (with distinction) from Baku State University, and a Master’s in Security Studies (with distinction) from Georgetown University. He also completed the Senior Course at the NATO Defense College in Rome (2000–2001).
In addition to his diplomatic career, he taught “Foreign Policy of Azerbaijan” and “Post-Soviet Azerbaijani Politics” at Khazar University in Baku.
The Ambassador is married and a proud father of one son and three daughters.
